At and around the Knappenhof there’s neither après-ski huts nor tour buses, just space and peace and quiet for you to do as you please - whether that is to relax, to hike or ski, to enjoy the stunning landscape or each other’s company. And best of all: for sports enthusiasts, the adventure usually starts right on our doorstep.

Hiking

Open the door and get going! The Törlweg (one of the most popular ascents up the Rax to the Ottohaus) starts directly behind the Knappenhof. The Höllental with its spectacular trails are only a few minutes away by car: there are via ferratas for beginners such as the Gustav Jahn Steig, as well as high alpine, spectacular via ferratas for advanced climbers such as the Hans von Haid Steig.

Breite Ries, Fronbachgraben, Hoyosgraben, Predigtstuhl to name a few, are just some of the many ski tours awaiting those enthusiastic skiers who prefer to make the most of the winter landscape away from lifts and crowds.

Cross-country skiing trails through otherwise untouched snow-covered forests - the Semmering region is a short drive away from the Knappenhof.

Mountain biking

The Rax-Semmering region is one of the most diverse mountain biking areas in eastern Austria. If you are looking for downhill action: the Bikepark Semmering is less than 20 km away.

Snowshoe hiking

Mountains, snow and sun off the beaten track: explore the white expanses of the Rax Plateau on snowshoes. There’s a cable car that can take you up the mountain - if that's what you want.

Sledding

Two sledding runs await you on the Rax and Semmering. On the Rax Plateau you can also sled back to the Waxriegelhaus after a hike to Prainer Gscheid.
